Cleaning Tips For All

This weekend I got wrapped up with lots of different cleaning projects I have been putting off.  I hate cleaning the microwave but when you have a husband who loves to make midnight snacks when I say snacks I mean meals and things go pop in there like sauce and butter you need to get down and dirty to clean it.  I must admit I leave things in there too long to at times.

Enough of how the microwave gets dirty we all know how that can happen but I found a way to clean it easy and safe with making the house smell good. Here are my cleaning tips for all:

  • Put a bowl of water with a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a few sprinkles of cinnamon in with the water.  Cook in the microwave for ten minutes.
  • After it rings, let it sit for five minutes in the microwave without opening the door.
  • After five minutes open the microwave; the door will be steamed and the aroma will be fresh.
  • Remove the glass shelf if you have one ( it might be hot so use caution) place it in the sink.
  • Remove the hot water bowl and pour over the glass shelf in the sink and let it sit.
  • While you let the glass shelf soak in the hot water, take a few paper towels and easily clean the microwave by wiping done!
  •  Rinse the glass shelf, put it back in the microwave and you’re done!

Easy, clean and fresh plus while the water was cooking you were able to clean something else in your kitchen.

The other thing I discovered was that I hate stainless steel appliances. Love the look but hate how they get streaked and finger printed but I found a great, cheap solution.  I found in the Dollar Tree a small packet with six small towelettes that clean stainless steel appliances.  They are small but go a long way and really work.  I have bought so much crap to get the appliances clean and nothing works.  The towelettes contain real natural lemon extracts so they say with a warning not to breath the vapors and keep out of reach of children.  So how good are they for you not sure but boy can they clean.  I know for sure I am the only one using them.  Now I need to find a natural solution with lemon juice and oil or something, you never know might work but for now they are my stainless steel cleaning solution.

Also for an all natural and cheap way to freshen your home – get an empty spray bottle add 1/4 vanilla extract and the rest water, then spray and smells delicious and lasts.  I use a small bottle so the amount of vanilla varies on the bottle size.

Love to hear your thoughts and tips on cleaning.  We all do it so why not share.
